Keren Alkalay-Gut grew up in Great Britain and the United States to a Yiddish-speaking family, and served as a professor of English literature at Tel Aviv University for more than 50 years. Alkalay-Gut has published more than 30 books of poetry in English and Hebrew, with translations into French, Italian and Danish. As the daughter of Holocaust survivors she struggles in these poems to recall and speak for those whose voices have been lost by relating their past to the everyday in the present.
