After the first successful version of this book in Yiddish-Hebrew, the poet Keren Alkalay-Gut brings us the new Yiddish-English version, in her own translation. This step is a natural one, since Alkalay-Gut grew in Great Britain and the United States to a Yiddish-speaking family, and served as a professor of English literature at Tel Aviv University for more than 50 years. Alkalay-Gut has published more than 30 books of poetry in English and Hebrew, with translations into French, Italian and Danish. As the daughter of Holocaust survivors she struggles in these poems to recall and speak for those whose voices have been lost and to relate their past to the everyday in the present, making this a book that is full of freshness and contemporary spirit.
