Heershadovid Menkes is the pen name for the Yiddish fiction of Yiddish and Holocaust studies scholar Dovid Katz, a linguist, cultural historian and educator who led Yiddish studies at Oxford for 18 years before settling in Vilnius to establish the subject there. His late father was Yiddish and English poet Menke Katz. Dovid Katz has been writing Yiddish prose for thirty years, and has already published three collective volumes. This fourth volume includes twelve stories: eight set in Lithuania of yesteryear, and four from the modern period set in New York and London. Illustrations by Yonia Fain, cover by Giedre Beconyte, design by Grigori Zundelovich.
